It's strange how such a deep understanding can spring up though something like pole dancing. Those deep moments of understanding rarely come at times that would make sense.
What a beautiful experience. I'm proud of you. And I miss you!
This is beautiful. What pole studio are you studying at?

This really is beautiful.
hi Pole Mistress, I study at http://www.divinemovementdance.com. Angi is my teacher - she is terrific.
thank you Kristi!
I miss u too Berly!
our bodies and minds are connected so it makes sense to me that something like dancing would help me get better understanding of my mind. :)

Good for you! After 3 years, I still have a hard time with the free dance. I tend to "perform" because that's what I always do in life (and it's largely why I even started taking classes - to PERFORM). Plus, the time I really really really showed myself, my true self, is the time I got the worst criticism from my instructor. So I turned it on, then right back off.

fyi: I came over from Pole Mistress' blog
It is very difficult not to "perform" when all eyes are on you. It's very difficult to perform for oneself and get in the head space of doing the very thing you love for yourself only. It is a gift whenever we do what we love for the love of doing it... it is also going to be something that I will keep struggling with but I'm willing to do it because I want to see myself for who I really am and share the true me with all those in my life. :) Thanks for reading my post!
do you always supply your own music? I was thinking about this for a couple days and recalled that I was much more "in the moment" when I let the instructor pick music for me, not even supplying a genre or mood. Then I had no choice but to try and feel the music.

I'm a major "angry music" fan... VERY into Nine Inch Nails. But one of my best dances was to John Mayer. Even I was shocked.
When we are warming up, learning routines and pole tricks, my instructor has a variety of music playing in the background so that we are exposed different and new music that we may not have heard / thought of dancing to before. But yah, she also encourages us to use songs that we can really relate to when we do our individual routines, which for me, really helps me get into the groove.
i found that I got more into the music when I didn't know what was coming. if i picked the song, or even just gave her a genre, then my mind tending to try to convey a preset mood or something. by not knowing the songs, I couldn't do that. i suppose it helps that i also can't hear the words to the songs while i'm dancing (not sure why - just is that way) so i have to dance the "mood"

btw: I'm assuming you're an S student. am i correct? I did about 2 solid years of S (L5 on floor/wall but max L2 on pole due to my weight) then switched it back and forth with other studios. now debating about going back but really can't make up my mind.
