Hundreds of flights canceled and thousands of people stranded. I just saw a woman on TV complaining and crying about how she has been sleeping at the airport with no pillows and no blanket and someone should be held responsible. Dear lady, I understand you are under distress. It is no one's fault that pretty much the entire country is being hit with this winter snow storm. I don't understand how people can feel like someone owes them and they should be compensated. A lot of people have this weird sense of entitlement, which I don't understand.
I still don't have my snow tires on because all the side roads are still frozen. If this keeps up, I am not going to make it to my brother's house for Xmas Eve gathering. However, I did hike 1.5 hours to and fro the grocery store to pick up some more food rations cuz I've started running low on the groceries I bought last Wednesday. It must be kinda what our grandparents felt like back in the olden days when they had no transportation and had to walk miles to the nearest watering hole.
Starting to get a bit of a cabin fever though.
I've been snowed in my house since Thursday. Worked from home Thurs and Fri. I am getting a little crazy but not. I enjoy the free time and the solitude but I also miss the convenience of driving to places. Missed a couple of parties because I don't have snow tires on and can't drive in this snow / ice to get my snow tires installed. Luckily on Wed I stocked up on some food and wine. However, I am running low on my rations and will probably venture out tomorrow to get supplies. Overnight I got 8" of snow and it's snowed non-stop. This is rare for Seattle and Seattle is very hilly. Lots of accidents, closures, etc.
The celebration at my brother's house for Xmas eve may even be canceled. Oy.
It rained the day I came home and I relished it.
I love Seattle. It's more my speed.
Everywhere you look, you see trees and plants, and nature of some sort.
In NYC, it was concrete and more man-made stuff.
NYC is awesome in its own way too. Very impressive.
I'm just a t-shirt and jeans girl :)
I really shouldn't complain. The weather in NY is beautiful and sunny. When I checked the weather before I left, it was suppose to be rainy for at least the first three days. So far, it rained while I took a 2-hour nap yesterday and that was that. Today it was hot and sticky and I wish I had brought a summer dress to wear (hmmm maybe I'll go shopping for one, or two tomorrow). Slept in, met up with my designer / friend @jodene at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. WOW I say. WOW. I saw original Van Gogh, Degas, Renoir, O'Keefe art pieces to name a few. We also enjoyed looking at Buddhist art from Asia. Holy moly. The experience was unreal... people were so creative, expressive, and imaginative, in various ways. The beauty of it all. It definitely inspired me some and I hope this feeling keeps and that I start creating my own art pieces when I get home.
We ate at the museum's cafeteria thinking it would be cheaper than the cafe upstairs (which had a set price of $24). Holy cow it was the most expensive salad I've ever had in my life and it was charged by the ounce. I got a salad bar salad (it wan't huge), a protein bar, a water, and a glass of white wine ($4) and the total came out to almost $26.
After the museum, we used our iPhone to find the nearest Starbucks near the Apple store on 5th Ave. It was in the Trump Tower, which is extravagantly gawdy. Yuck. I remember seeing The Apprentice the first or second season and they showed Donald's penthouse on the top floor and he was showing off his gold toilet. Really? Does knowing that everytime you sit on it and your ass and shit touch gold make you feel rich? Um yah, gawdy.
The Apple Store was packed like the last time I was there in January. Crazy. It is still very cool how the exterior is a glass structure and you go in and then go underground from it. It's as if you're being integrated into the Apple world as you go down.
Then we hiked all the way back to my hotel which is like 23 blocks (and these are big city blocks) and I suggested we get Korean food. OMG it was so good that we are talking about getting it again for dinner tomorrow night. We feasted and then I went back up to my room to change my skirt into jeans (bad idea). It was still humid out and @jodene wanted me to go along with her to see Steve Reich (which I never heard of before). The music is like transic orchestra emo-ish music. That's the best way I can describe it. It was at this club in the Greenich Village called La Poisson Rouge and truly crowded. We scored a small space to sit on the floor and my body and head ached bad so I bailed after two songs. Besides, people behind me kept accidentally kicking me in the arse so enough of that.
On my way back to the hotel, I was thinking to myself how NYC is such a great place to visit but not a place for me to live. Everything is man-made and everywhere I looked, up down left right were pretty much filled with concrete or people. Like, if I lived in NYC and wanted to do social stuff with friends it probably wouldn't be something like, let's go snowboarding, hiking or river rafting. I'd miss the nature-y stuff too much. I guess I'm just spoiled since living in Seattle, you can drive about 45 minutes after work and be on top of a mountain night snowboarding. Additionally, rent in the "good" areas of town in NYC is super duper expensive... more than Seattle by way far. It just made me appreciate more of what I have in Seattle. Squee! :)
Tomorrow I think I'll just walk around the metropolis again and enjoy the city experience. It's fun, except for the two times getting hit on by high-strung dudes at Time Squre. Heh.
Just getting around to doing this now since I've been super swamped with work (tomorrow is the big day to present our efforts of the last two months to our entire group).
Friday - I went out to steak dinner and drinks with GameBoy to get my weekly dosage of meaty iron :) Then we saw Kung Fu Panda. Sooo funny, two thumbs up, I highly recommend. GameBoy dropped me off at home right after the movie and as I was walking by my hawt pilot neighbor's unit, I noticed that all the single women neighbors that were hanging out on his patio. Hawt pilot neighbor asked me to stay for a drink and said it was OK to bring my dog. So I did just that - drank the yummy vodka tonic he made me and chatted with him until 3am!! Most of the women left at about 130.
Saturday - Woke up super late and ran all the way from my house to the dance studio to find out the pole dance class we canceled. I was very surprised at how much I can run now without feelng shitty or exhausted. Hmmph - maybe I will give running another chance? After I got home I cleaned myself up and took Solo out to the parade. It was the first time I've ever seen the famous Fremont Solstice Parade in Seattle. It was great cuz the parade pretty much ended about 2 blocks from where I live. One of the notable event of this parade is that there were painted nekkid cyclists. I saw so many peepees within 5 minutes of my life and was overly sensitized by the variety of shapes, sizes, shades, hair, etc. Gravity does interesting things to a man's jewels as he age. I'll leave it at that.
Saturday night - it was CC's Seattle bachelorette party at the Bedroom Club in West Seattle. Our little group decided to all dress up. Me without the big hooters decided against bustier and went a different route with the look of a catholic school girl. Tee hee. We had dinner at this pizza place that served giant pieces for like 6 bucks each that was incredibly tasty and the size of a giant menu. We were all pretty lit when we got to the burlesque show and proceeded to each get more alcohol (of course). We were having so much fun and the show was really fabulous to watch. At one point, CC got pulled up stage and had her ass spanked. Then me and CC's little sis got pulled up on stage too. Man, they spanked my ass hard!!! IT HURT! Later when we joined the crew for drinks at a nearby bar, the only male burlesque person complimented me on my cute panties. Ummm hahaha ;) Sweet. DD was also really great at scoring us a ride home with her charm so we didn't have to wait forever for a cab in the cold. Didn't get home until 230.
Sunday - slept in until 12. SuZ stayed at my place so it was great to wake up to her loveliness. We hung out and chatted for a little bit before she had to take off. I worked for most of the rest of the day until dinner with a friend.
Yah I think I am still recovering a little from the going to bed around 230 - 3 thing. Haha :) Fun though. Fun!
Where did the time go?
Damn insomnia!!!
Interestingly, it's been raining here in Seattle for the last 3 hours or so.
Yesterday was gorgeous and sunny.
Damn global warming!
Maybe I should try to pretend to get some sleep.
Had a Mac 'n Jack and huge chicken quesedillas. Now playing with dogs (or watching them play). Karaoke later. Life is good. ;)
Oh, and it's weirdly snowing here in Seattle. Yah, seriously.
Man, I'm making life changing decisions left and right and I feel damn good about it!
After looking at my finances and the crappy seller's market it is as of late, I've decided to keep my house and rent it out. Yep. I've already called my agent to put an ixnay on the isting-lay.
Now if you'll please redirect your extra positive energy towards helping me finding a good renter, asap :) Much appreciated!
One of the many benefits of working for Ginormous Software Company is that it provides its very own wi-fi ready buses with many routes in the greater Seattle area. More routes were just announced this week and one of them picks up people from my new neighborhood! KICK ASS! This means I get to work while I'm on the bus (and that does count as working time).
Dear Universe, please help me sell my house quickly at a good fair market price. Sincerely, Alixito.
